Summer at Raumaster: “Work now continues alongside my studies”
Rauma-native Iiro Viskari studies for his Bachelor of Engineering at Tampere University of Applied Sciences. He is in the final year of his studies and will graduate in the upcoming summer. Viskari spent the summer of 2023 as a purchasing trainee in the purchasing department at Raumaster and has since continued to work there.
"I was interested in the field of engineering in general because I have always loved working with motors and such. It is why I chose my study program back in the day", Viskari explains.
"I have learnt a lot about this position, and about sales in the engineering world in general."
He has spent his summers working for Raumaster since 2018, and this past summer was his second in the purchasing department. The previous year, he worked as a substitute during the Christmas season. He also has a wide variety of previous experience in various warehouse duties.
"The work in the purchasing department corresponds with my education more closely. My schooling helps with recognizing components, for example, and with other crucial details as well. An engineering degree is pretty universal."
Clear plans for the future
Last summer Viskari made orders, sent out calls for bids, and reviewed order confirmations and bills which he also approved, among other things. The work itself corresponded with what Viskari hopes to do after graduation.
"Raumaster has a wonderful work environment, and the department has excellent team spirit. If you have any questions, you always receive an answer. I have learnt a lot about this position, and about sales in the engineering world in general", Viskari says.
"It is wonderful that they offered this opportunity to work alongside my studies."
"During the summers, Raumaster offers versatile positions that boost your studies which makes graduating into your profession easier. Practical work is a great teacher, and you also get a hang of the working life."
Enthusiasm for the field and constantly developing expertise was noticed, and Viskari continued in the purchasing department after the summer.
"It is wonderful that they offered this opportunity to work alongside my studies. I mainly work remotely from Tampere. Planning for the future, and my life financially, is easier when I get to work in a position I enjoy, and at the same time, there is a chance to find work at the same company after graduation."
